First of all, you need to choose mascara taking into account the features of your appearance: skin tone and color, eye color, eyelashes and hair. It would be a good idea to pay attention to your clothes, accessories and makeup, which you plan to apply along with colored mascara. The place you intend to visit also plays an important role when choosing such extravagant cosmetics. It is unlikely that you will use mascara in bright, acidic shades when going to a business meeting.

Pay special attention to the color of your eyes. Their shade should be combined with the color of the mascara and together form an inextricable whole. It is important that it emphasizes the beauty of your eyes, and not shades it. Here, for example, are some color combinations that would be appropriate:

- For green eyes A purple color with possible plum variations would be better. This color also looks good paired with gray eyeshadow.

- For those with brown or dark brown eyes You should pay attention to brown, green or dark blue ink. Makeup with silver shadows and green mascara looks very good - a unique magic appears in the eyes that can charm anyone.

- To dark brown eyes It is better to choose purple mascara.

- Girls with blue, gray and dark blue eyes they can safely highlight them with marine shades of mascara, and choose bronze or copper shadows. Blue-eyed women also look good with purple mascara.

One of the most common mistakes is choosing mascara and eye shadow of similar shades. This should be avoided. The color of mascara and shadows, merging together, is not able to emphasize either the first or the second. Before applying mascara, it is recommended to use special tongs. This way mascara will highlight your eyes better. The result of applying mascara also depends on a good brush.

When going out for everyday activities, it is better to apply one coat of colored mascara. And before a date, going to a club or a party, you can safely apply up to three layers. If you are afraid of the “multi-layer effect” and want your eyelashes to keep their shape well, apply mascara base first.

Not all mascara colors are appropriate for every occasion. For example, for work and daytime walks, mascara in darker shades is better. And in the evening or at night, mascara in bright and even daring colors will help you look impressive and attractive. Extravagant shades go well with colored false eyelashes.

Once you decide to use colored mascara, resist the urge to apply colored eyeshadow to your eyelids. Do not overdo it with color - there is a big risk of looking comical and stupid. It is enough to apply colored mascara and a little blush. If you really want to further emphasize your eyes, opt for a black pencil for the inner eye contour.

Finally, a few words about ink colors:

1. Red

Many people often tend to avoid this shade of mascara for fear of looking vulgar. However, with the correct use of red shades of mascara, you can create a very interesting and stylish look. Try applying it only to the ends of your eyelashes at first. If you are satisfied with the result, then you can try applying it in several layers. For people with blue eyes, light red and coral shades are suitable.

2. Purple

One thing to remember when using purple mascara is that the color tends to look brighter on the wand than when applied to the lashes. Don't let its rich color scare you - it harmonizes wonderfully with a variety of colors. Using this mascara, you can better highlight the green tones of your brown eyes or make your eyes look deeper and more languid.

3. Blue

This color is quite versatile. However, to find the ideal shade of blue mascara that matches the color of your eyes, hair, and skin tone, preliminary experiments are required. With blue mascara, blue eyes appear deeper, with green-brown eyes the green tint is more visible, and in dark brown eyes you can even detect golden notes.

4. Bronze

Anyone who chooses bronze mascara probably wants to add more light and shine to their eyes. Don't worry about the mascara being too bright and ruining the painting - even in two layers it doesn't look intrusive. It is suitable for green, blue eyes and especially emphasizes brown ones. Bronze mascara is successfully combined with similar colored blush and lipstick. Almost the same recommendations can be given when choosing copper and orange mascara.

5. Green

It can thicken and highlight the shape of the eyes. Green mascara comes in several shades. But all of them look great on those with blue, gray, light blue and, of course, green eyes. If you carefully apply mascara to the tips of the lower or only the upper eyelashes, then it will look quite nice with brown eyes. It is important not to overdo it, otherwise you can turn into a mermaid with eyes shrouded in mud.

6. Glitter

Shiny mascara is an excellent choice for going to a nightclub or a party, where you can afford a little more than in your everyday routine. Eye color does not play a special role here. This mascara will add shine and charm to any girl. However, you need to take into account that the glitter of mascara can illuminate not only your eyes, but also the wrinkles under your eyes, making them more noticeable.

7. Gray

Girls who are a little tired of the usual black mascara can safely try its gray shade. In terms of functionality, gray mascara is very close to black. But her look is much more interesting and softer.

8. Brown

But still, the best alternative to black mascara is brown. I can confidently recommend her to all ladies. Just like gray, it softens the look well. When choosing a shade of brown mascara, you need to take into account your skin tone: a girl with fair skin will suit lighter shades of mascara, and those with dark skin will suit dark brown colors.

9. White

White mascara should hardly be used for everyday activities; in its “pure form” it is good for special events, going to a club and a New Year’s party. But it will be wonderful as a base for your usual mascara. It makes your eyelashes look thicker and keep their shape perfectly.

10. Yellow

If you want to try yellow mascara, then it's best to save it for the summer. The fashion for this mascara color was introduced by the spring 2013 cosmetics collection from Chanel. You need to be prepared that yellow eyelashes will not suit all girls. But sunny blondes can safely experiment with it.

11. Gold and silver

Who doesn't love the color gold? It can highlight any eyes and give your makeup a festive mood. Black and rich brown shadows will help enhance this effect. And on a sunny day, golden mascara will add a charming sparkle to your eyes. Silver ink is very close to it in terms of characteristics. Unlike gold, silver on eyelashes seems a little calmer and cooler.

12. Pink

It is for brave experimenters. It is most often chosen by teenage girls who have not yet decided on a style and try a little of everything. Pink mascara is also good for colorful themed parties. Contrasting shadows for it need to be chosen especially carefully.

Whatever color you choose, remember that the experiment must be carefully thought out.

Colored mascara came into fashion back in the 60s of the last century, and has not left the catwalks since then. Many people don't like this trend. How is it that the eyelashes are not black, but some kind of green? But even the same green mascara sometimes looks not at all vulgar, but fresh and interesting. Probably, not everyone can simply choose the right colored mascara for themselves, and now we will try to sort out this problem.

Blue mascara. It is considered the most neutral of all colors, but at the same time, with the wrong makeup, there is a high probability of turning into a girl from a country party. Blue mascara looks great with brown eyes. By the way, shadows of such shades also look most advantageous with this eye color. Blue mascara is also suitable for gray-eyed beauties. As a bonus, blue mascara hides fatigue and pale skin color well.

Green mascara. To be honest, I have never met a girl in my life who uses green mascara. They are afraid of her. But world makeup artists recommend this particular mascara to owners of light brown eyes. But it is better to choose darker shades rather than bright ones. Mandatory condition: the mascara should be darker than the color of the shadows. Pearl and silver shadows harmonize perfectly with green mascara.

Lilac mascara. It is lilac mascara that looks great without additions, that is, without shadows and eyeliner. Girls with red or brown hair should first of all pay attention to this mascara. As for eye color, it is blue, green and gray. Gray in combination with this mascara will become almost blue, green will become so bright that you yourself will be surprised by this effect, and it will give blue-eyed girls an incredibly deep look.

Brown mascara. My favorite of all the colored ones. It is universal and does not have any specific criteria for color type. However, if your eyelashes are naturally darker, then there is no point in using this mascara. By the way, brown mascara is ideal for nude makeup, because it is almost invisible on the eyelashes!

Red or burgundy mascara. As ironic as it may sound, it suits green eyes amazingly. In addition, this color is more suitable for brunettes. Blondes should give preference to pink mascara. But burgundy mascara requires great caution: this shade is incompatible with tired, pale skin and puffy eyelids.

And a few more recommendations regarding other colors. Too much bright colors More suitable for brown-eyed girls with slightly dark skin. But I wouldn’t recommend getting carried away with such shades; you risk appearing like a clown.

Natural blondes with fair skin and light eyes can use gray mascara.

By the way, some fashionistas also use white mascara. It is believed that it looks good during winter celebrations and is good for youthful and refreshing facial skin.

On special occasions you can use golden ink. A brown-eyed brunette with golden eyelashes is as beautiful as ever on New Year's Eve!

How to apply colored mascara?

In addition to painting all eyelashes with the same color, there are at least three interesting options for using colored mascara.

Method 1. Those who are bold and stylish enough can experiment with colored mascara and paint their upper eyelashes one color and the lower ones another. You can use any colors (it depends on your courage), the classic option is the upper eyelashes are black and the lower ones are blue.

Method 2. Apply colored mascara as an accent: for example, at the outer corner of the eye or at the inner corner. All other eyelashes may be a different color. You can even make a smooth transition from the inner corner of the eye: for example, from white to gray or from blue to dark blue... Or you can also have a real gradient - again from the inner to the outer corner: from white through gray to black (classic combination) or something brighter.

Method 3. Apply contrasting mascara to the ends of your eyelashes. For example, here is a festive option - black eyelashes with red tips.

It doesn’t look very pretentious, but original. You can combine other colors - for example, black + gold, blue + white, black + white, brown + burgundy...

The main thing is not to forget about a sense of proportion and appropriateness, then colored eyelashes will become a bright addition to your delightful look.

Which method do you choose?

Colored mascara is considered by many to be an element of traditional summer makeup - and indeed, under the snow, orange or green eyelashes sometimes look out of place. BeautyHack special correspondent Moore Soboleva tested eight multi-colored mascaras and found out which ones give only a hint of shade, and which ones draw all the attention to themselves. We applied all the mascaras in two thin layers without a base to naturally dark eyelashes, painting them from bottom to top.

Sublime DeepLook Puro Pigmento, Blu, Wycon

The Sublime line includes four colored mascaras, all very pretty and quite bright. I have blue Blu - it will look like fire on light eyelashes, but even on my dark ones it is quite noticeable in just one layer. The mascara itself slightly lengthens the eyelashes and separates them well. Immediately after application, the color of the mascara is very piercing, but over time it darkens slightly - this issue can be resolved with the help of several additional layers.

In Extreme Dimension, Energized, MAC

As part of the Work It Out collection, the brand has released a large collection of bright colored mascaras. In Extreme Dimension are mascaras with large brushes that turn eyelashes into very fluffy and voluminous ones. Energized Yellow works just as well as its counterparts in other shades in this capacity, but yellow is the most difficult pigment in cosmetics, so the color applies somewhat unevenly. The brand did not fail with brightness - the color is visible even from a great distance.

Passioneyes, shade Blu Indaco, Dolce & Gabbana

The classic Passioneyes volumizing mascara comes in three shades, but you shouldn’t expect bright colors from them - the blue Blu Indaco is very dark, and the color will only be visible in directed light. But the mascara itself is excellent, it perfectly separates the eyelashes, holds the curl and supports complementary blue shades of eyeshadow and pencils well: this way the shade “plays” and is noticeable much better.

Cabaret Premiere, shade 03, Vivienne Sabo

Cabaret mascara is probably the most iconic product from the Vivienne Sabo range, a budget discovery for thousands of girls. It creates fanned eyelashes, is inexpensive and applies well - what more could you want from a mascara? Cabaret Premiere is a little different from the classic version and is aimed more at lengthening, but it comes in a beautiful aqua shade, which is also perfectly pigmented.

Mascara Vamp! Extreme, shade 31 Shocking Blue, Pupa

The Shocking Blue shade actually turns out to be not so shocking - despite the bright color on the brush, on the eyelashes it is quite a noble dark blue. Vamp! Extreme silicone brush of a whimsical shape, which you can use to comb your eyelashes up to the ceiling if you wish: this is best done by twisting the brush while painting your eyelashes. The mascara layers well, but it’s better to hurry - the pigment sets quickly.

Cils d'Enfer Maxi Lash, shade Marine, Guerlain

One might love just the name “hellish lashes”, but Cils d’Enfer also has excellent technical characteristics: a comfortable brush, good volume in one touch and a very pleasant smell (which doesn’t happen too often with mascaras). The Marine shade is reminiscent of a stormy sea - it is a dark gray-blue that makes light eyes brighter, but at the same time is not read by the naked eye as colored mascara. Very suitable for those who are just starting to experiment with shades on their eyes.

Ubiquitos Magnitude Mascara, shade Ruby, Rouge Bunny Rouge

Burgundy mascara shades are my favorite: no other mascara brings out the green in the eyes so well. New Rouge Bunny Rouge is not the brightest color in the world, but it is exactly the right shade of burgundy that brightens the eyes without drawing attention to itself. The mascara has a classic voluminous brush and good quality: it promises to lengthen eyelashes, separate them, hold curl and add volume, and, in general, it does everything.

Mascara Terrybly, shade 4 Purple Success, By Terry

This is my first mascara from the elegant By Terry brand. Terrybly has a comfortable classic brush located at a slight angle (professional makeup artists love this trick - it’s more convenient to paint the inner corner of the eye). The shade Purple Success is a fairly bright reddish purple, which, however, is practically invisible on dark eyelashes. To make the shade noticeable, you will have to use at least three layers of Terrybly - or, for example, pre-paint the mucous membrane with a purple pencil.

The rules that make it possible to give a special expressiveness to the look must correspond to the criteria of the woman’s age and appearance, according to which a certain colored mascara is selected. Mascaras are distinguished by different parameters: volume, lengthening, color. To look more attractive at a party or on vacation, and to get positive feedback about your own makeup, you can use not necessarily black or white, but also colored mascara, for example, brown.
Colored mascara is offered by manufacturers on the cosmetics market in a wide assortment, which includes burgundy, purple, blue, green, gold, yellow, chestnut, you can also buy brown mascara, etc. When choosing a color, you should definitely take into account age, focus on eye color and hair. At the same time, a brighter color mascara requires more saturated shades and less light eyeliner for the upper eyelid, and for the lower eyelid you can use a brighter eyeliner color.

How to choose the right mascara

It is advisable to use mascara of different colors for the following three reasons:

  1. Emphasize and highlight eyelashes more strongly.
  2. Make your look more expressive.
  3. Show the beauty of the eyes.

Contrasting shadows can be used at the same time. In general, cosmetics should be ideally matched to any celebration, occasion or holiday. The main thing is that it matches the appearance. Using cosmetics in contrasting shades will help you achieve the ideal result. Be sure to pay special attention to eye color. For green eyes, for example, red or burgundy mascara is perfect. Chestnut, gray or brown can be used by those who have blue eyes. The choice of cosmetics for brown-eyed people is more varied in color: chestnut, blue, purple, green.
Blue mascara adds depth to the look. A cool blue shade will suit eyes that are blue, green, gray, or bright brown.
Chestnut mascara is ideal for these eye colors. For blondes or fair-haired women with a warm skin tone, chestnut or blue-blue colors with a warm tint are offered. For red-haired or brown-haired women, green mascara will be a great way to attract attention.

How to use colored mascara correctly

In order for makeup to be particularly expressive and look interesting and attractive, it is necessary to take into account the basic rules when applying it:

  1. Using blue mascara usually hides the overall dullness of the eyes.
  2. Green color looks perfect when using pearl or silver shadows, sea wave, that is, shades that are in perfect harmony with silver eyeliner.
  3. Purple color is suitable when the eyes are blue-gray.
  4. Burgundy is ideal for brown or green eyes, the use of which requires maximum caution, since mascara will not look good on a tired face with pale skin and puffy eyes.
  5. Blue mascara will help hide fatigue and imperfections, as well as pale skin from overwork.
  6. Gray-blue eyes can be made expressive by using a purple shade of cosmetics that harmonizes with gray, brown or green eyes.

If the purple mascara color has a plum tint, then the overall appearance will be more sophisticated. In everyday life, it is best to use chestnut-colored mascara, which softens the natural color of the eyes, making the look especially expressive. The chestnut color of mascara is applicable to any eye color, from clear blue to black. Such cosmetics are most ideal for blue-eyed people. When applying makeup, use delicate cream or brown shades as a basis. For the greatest emphasis in evening makeup, use coffee-colored mascara, which has an intense black tone.
Sometimes, to best highlight the eyes, two layers of dark mascara are used, which helps make them not only expressive, but also provocative. If you need to avoid this effect, then it would be better to use gray mascara, which must be present in a business woman’s cosmetic bag. Gray mascara can have several different shades.

The darker the woman's hair color, the better the purple decorative mascara will look. In this case, you can emphasize the contour of the eyes with a chestnut-chocolate pencil. By first painting your eyelashes with dark mascara, for example, brown, and then purple, you can especially emphasize the beauty of the tips of the eyelashes. Return to contents

Comparative characteristics of black and colored decorative ink

Colored mascara can usually emphasize the expressiveness of a woman's look by painting only the tips of the eyelashes.

The entire length from their base should be covered with a darker color, which will correspond to fashion trends. This way you can provide your eyelashes with a certain optical effect, which will greatly affect the shape of your eyes and their color. The reflection of light from the eyelashes attracts attention, which makes them more attractive, because the “wet” effect of the eyelashes makes them sparkle. By dyeing using different colors of mascara, for example, scarlet, grey-green, blue-blue, violet and other colors, the eyelashes are given intense shine.
Black mascara is most suitable for evening make-up, since it gives the most effective results to the eyes, while chestnut or brown mascara is suitable for everyday make-up, which provides a protective function, since it not only gives expressiveness to the look. Due to this, the eyelashes are protected from the wind, do not fade under the scorching sun, and the eyes are isolated from road dust. Modern mascara contains nourishing oils and vitamins that care for the beauty of eyelashes and stimulate their growth. Due to proteins, keratin and lanolin, drying and brittleness do not occur.
A specific color of mascara is suitable for each hair type and color. For example, brown eyes will look perfect if the eyelashes are colored blue, which has many shades, ranging from electronic blue to royal turquoise. It is better not to use blue mascara if your eyes are blue, gray or green; it will not add expressiveness to your eyes, but will make them paler and less expressive. Even if blue mascara matches the color of the eyes, it is best to combine it with a suitable palette in clothes, because otherwise the makeup will not look right.

If you decide to approach makeup with colored eyelashes, the first problem to solve is choosing a shade. You should be guided by both your preferences and your appearance.

  • Blue mascara is the most suitable option for everyday makeup; it can even be called universal. It is best for fair-haired girls to dye their eyelashes blue. As for eye color, blue mascara will go perfectly with blue, brown, and green. Thanks to it, the look of blue eyes will become deeper, and contrasting green and brown eyes will be brightened by such mascara.
  • Green mascara is produced in different variations: emerald, turquoise, and the color of fresh grass. Choose a shade based on your preferences. Also keep in mind that these colors are most suitable for girls with brown and gray eyes.
  • Pink mascara, despite the brightness of the shade, suits everyone. People are usually afraid to use it in eye makeup, as it can make the look look painful and emphasize fatigue. In this sense, the “safest” pink is an acidic shade, neon.
  • Purple mascara is also a great option for every day, especially dark plum shades. Bright ones contrast beautifully with brown, green and gray eyes.

Application methods

Completely along the entire length

If you are brave enough to make bright eyelashes the main focus of your makeup, apply colored mascara to the entire length of your eyelashes. And refrain from other notable details of the image.

To the tips of the eyelashes

When you want to add just a little color to your eye makeup, apply colored mascara only to the tips of your eyelashes, after painting them with regular black mascara.

Gradient effect

You'll add more depth to your look if you use different shades of mascara to create a soft transition from one color to another. Apply light mascara (for example, gray) to the part of the eyelashes that is located closer to the inner corner of the eye. Apply black mascara to the outer corner of your eyelashes.

Lower lashes only

Many of us only paint our eyelashes on top. Try creating a unique eye makeup look by applying colored mascara only to your lower lashes.

Combination options

How to complement makeup with bright eyelashes? Depends on how bold the look you can afford. If you are not afraid of non-standard make-up options, then you can add a liner of a contrasting color or bright lipstick to colored mascara. If colored eyelashes are the limit of brightness for you, leave them as the only accent in your makeup and otherwise use neutral, natural shades.
