Making perfume from essential oils with your own hands is a labor-intensive but exciting activity. Different scents can be used to create a product with a unique scent or similar to well-known brands. And the cost of homemade perfumes will be several times less than purchased ones.

Handmade perfumes always turn out unique. Even the same recipe can give different aromas, depending on the concentration of ester and other components. But they also have several disadvantages:

  1. Possible allergies. Some aromatic oils may cause itching, rashes, redness, shortness of breath and dizziness. Therefore, each ether is carefully checked before use: it is determined whether the smell causes headaches and difficulty breathing, and whether irritation occurs.
  2. Difficulty and duration of preparation. It takes from a couple of weeks to a month for the perfume to be completely ready. Also, natural ingredients are “picky”: they do not tolerate heat, light and humidity.
  3. Short shelf life. In less than a year, the aroma is completely “exhausted.”

Also, perfumes made from essential oils should not be applied before going out into the sun and should not be used by children, pregnant or lactating women.

But homemade products also have a number of advantages:

  1. The cost is 3 – 10 times cheaper than the brand name.
  2. Quality control is carried out independently.
  3. There will be no cheap synthetic substances in the composition.
  4. Perfumes made from ethers have an aromatherapy effect.
  5. You can create a unique scent for each person, emphasizing his individuality.

In addition, creating perfumes with your own hands is an exciting hobby. And you don’t have to rack your brains over gifts - everyone will like original, high-quality gifts. They can be made for both women and men.

Necessary materials

To make your own perfume, you will need:

  1. The basis. Jojoba oil, olive oil, grape seed oil, almond oil or alcohol.
  2. Essential oils. Any quantity can be taken, but not less than three.
  3. Distilled water for alcohol-based perfumes.
  4. Glass containers for mixing.
  5. Bottles with sprayer made of dark glass for storage. Old bubbles from used eau de toilette will do - you can darken them yourself.
  6. Pipette with dispenser.
  7. Glass mixing rods.
  8. Test strips. They can be made by cutting a landscape sheet or photo paper.
  9. Pencil to sign strips.
  10. A notebook or notebook - recipes are written down step by step in them, successful aromatic mixtures or, conversely, mistakes are noted.

Preference is given to high-quality base and essential oils. To avoid falling for a fake, you should only buy products in specialized cosmetic stores or pharmacies. The packaging of natural aromatic oils is solid, undamaged, and the bottle is made of tinted glass. In addition, there should be no impurities or chemical stabilizers.

There are certain rules in how to make perfume from essential oils:

  1. Determine the direction of the perfume: floral, spicy, sweet, invigorating.
  2. The names of the esters are written on the test strips. It is better to sign with a pencil rather than a pen - the ink has a distinct smell.
  3. A drop of various essential oils is applied to the test strips. Then they bring them to the nose and determine the aroma they like. First they stop at one key scent, then combine it with others.
  4. The aromas of the heart, top and bottom are isolated. They are mixed in a ratio of 2:1:3. For example, take 10 drops of oil for middle notes, 5 for top notes, 15 for bottom notes.
  5. A base is added to the mixed aromatic oils: jojoba oil or alcohol. For every drop of ether there should be 4 drops of base.
  6. The perfume is poured into a bottle and kept for 2 weeks to a month. Shake the product every 3 days.
  7. To secure the persistence of the aroma and slightly soften the pungent odor, add 5 drops of glycerin to the composition.

Oil-based perfumes

Oil-based perfumes are prepared faster and easier than those made from other ingredients. They only need to be left for 14 days. This period can be reduced to 7 days. However, they should not be used to spray clothes (they will leave greasy stains on them) or hair (they will quickly become greasy).

It is best to use jojoba oil - it is light and odorless. The finished product is stored for 6 months.

Alcohol based perfumes

Perfume requires alcohol in a concentration of at least 96%. This product “ripens” for a long time – at least one month. But you can spray it on your hair and clothes - the aroma lasts longer on them than on the skin. In addition, the composition does not leave greasy marks.

The intensity of the smell can be varied depending on the desired result. 70% alcohol accounts for:

  1. For perfumes – 20% aromatic oils.
  2. For eau de parfum – 12% ether.
  3. For eau de toilette – 7% aromatic extracts.
  4. For cologne – 5% essential essence.

Also, alcohol perfumes must contain at least 5% distilled water.

Wax based perfumes

You can use both oil and beeswax as a base for homemade perfume. The finished product will be semi-solid and melt when applied to the skin. It is advisable not to get the product on your hair or clothes. But the aroma of such perfumes is the most persistent.

The technology for creating wax perfumes is somewhat different:

  • take oil and wax in equal proportions;
  • heat them in a water bath until liquid;
  • add essential essences to the warm mixture and mix;
  • pour into a prepared storage container;
  • The bottle is selected with a wide neck so that the hardened product can be easily removed.

Perfume is created according to certain rules. The main one is the peculiarities of combining different aromas. For the first time, it is better to take floral scents: even an unsuccessful recipe will be a winner. It is worth considering that woody and citrus smells conflict and interrupt each other.

In total, there are 5 types of aromas: floral, fruity, woody, spicy (oriental) and herbal.

There is also a division of odors by notes: top, middle and bottom.

  1. Top notes are those that are felt immediately after applying the perfume. They evaporate after half an hour. They are the ones that form the first impression.
  2. Middle or heart notes. They are the main ones in any composition. It is better to start making perfumes by choosing aromas for the middle, and then select top and bottom aromas for them. They last for several hours.
  3. Bottom notes are the basis of perfume, their peculiar aftertaste. They remain for up to a day.

Certain aromatic oils are used for different notes:

A complementary aroma is distinguished separately. This is a smell that corrects others: enhances or weakens their effect. In addition, a compliment connects the ethers with each other. This group includes lavender, sandalwood, rosemary, eucalyptus, peppermint, and citrus fruits.

Natural perfume recipes

The main advantage of perfumes made from aromatic oils is their unique, unlike others, smell. But it’s better to postpone experiments until you get your hands full. First, you can use perfume recipes from essential oils to make perfumes that are similar in composition and aroma to products from popular brands.

There are no restrictions in making perfumes from essential essences. Except your own imagination. You can experiment endlessly, creating new scents. Sooner or later, the formula for an ideal, original scent that emphasizes individuality will be developed.

  • quality essential oils;
  • medical alcohol;
  • distilled water;
  • container for storing perfume;
  • test strips.

Briefly about all the components of the process:

  • Essential oils should only be of high quality. The problem with low-quality essential oils is that the vast majority of them are synthetic oils. And it’s sad to say, but most pharmacies sell just such oils. Firstly, the smell is very distorted, and secondly, there will be no therapeutic (or other) benefits from such oils. Some women take on the task of making perfume on their own in order to create a composition that is. But synthetic oil plays a different tune and often produces completely different results. How to determine whether the oil is of high quality, look here in this article -;
  • alcohol - it is needed for the production of alcohol-based perfumes. There is only one rule here - take medical, not technical;
  • Distilled water is needed to dilute perfume. It is sold either in pharmacies or car dealerships;
  • The container for storing perfume should have a very tight-fitting (ground-in) lid. You can, in principle, take a bottle from an old perfume, but here it is important that there are no residual odors left (which is very difficult to achieve). High-quality perfumes leave a slight trace of aroma almost forever;
  • test strips are ordinary flat cardboard strips. They are needed to select the scents you need and determine the compatibility of aromas. The easiest way is to cut out a children's craft kit from white cardboard. Or the cardboard that tights manufacturers put in the packaging is perfect.

How to make perfume correctly

First you need to understand essential oils and find out how to select essential oils for perfume?

The French are recognized leaders in perfumery. And once upon a time, back in the 19th century, the famous perfumer Pisse proposed dividing fragrances into 3 groups, notes like in music. This classification is also called the pyramid of notes:

  • aromas top note(starting note) - in music, the top notes are high and light, usually the listener hears them as the main melody. It’s exactly the same in perfumery, these are the smells that appear first, the first you feel, but they are the first to disappear (the most volatile aromas). The “first in, first out” principle. The top notes disappear within 5-10 minutes. That is why you should not choose perfume without waiting for the base aroma to appear.
  • aroma middle note(heart notes) are scents that link high and low note scents. These scents last from 3 to 5 hours. Since this is the brightest part of the accord in a perfume, non-intrusive and non-pungent scents are used as the middle note. It is this aroma that should make the main impression.
  • aromas base note- these are the most persistent, long-lasting aromas, the foundation of the composition. Usually these are heavy and rich odors. This is the trail of the composition, which lasts from 5 to 8 hours and opens up, either together with the heart note or after the aroma of the middle note has evaporated.

According to experts, the following ratio is considered ideal:

  1. top note - 30%;
  2. middle note - 50%;
  3. base note - 20%.

Of course, this proportion is not strictly adhered to.

What aroma belongs to each individual scent note?

To distribute fragrances by notes, it is easier to first find out which class a particular fragrance belongs to. There are several options for classifying smells: the French school of perfumers, German, American... And depending on the school of perfumery, fragrances are divided into 20-30 types. But the most famous and simple ones, which will be clear to a novice perfumer, are:

  • citrus: citrus scents (lemon, orange, tangerine, lime...) and herbs and plants that smell citrus (verbena, lemongrass...)
  • green: this is the smell of greens (basil, celery, hemp...), leaves (bay, tea, tobacco...), cut grass, green vegetables (cucumber)
  • spicy: these are warm and sensual scents of spices (paprika, cinnamon, cocoa, saffron, nutmeg...)
  • floral: aroma of flowers (rose, jasmine, carnation, hyssop, heather, acacia...). It is rich in shades and nuances and a huge range of aroma play.
  • fruity: mainly tropical and exotic fruits (grapes, figs, pineapple, pomegranate, pear, peach...)
  • trees and mosses: a real treasure of smells. It is a woody and earthy scent (oak, cedar, cypress, patchouli, bamboo, thuja, rosewood...)
  • balms and resins: These are the most ancient fragrances and the most ancient perfumes. This group includes: frankincense, myrrh, styrax, balsamic vinegar...
  • musk and amber: this is the aroma secreted by the secretions of some animals (whale, beaver...). This is a scent that evokes an olfactory sexual appeal. Many plants have an aroma similar in effect to the aroma of natural musk and ambergris. Among them are labdanum, angelica, ambrette seeds.

And now which scents belong to which note:

  1. Top note: citrus, green, spicy.
  2. middle note: floral, fruity and some spicy aromas.
  3. base note: these are the last 3 groups - trees and mosses, balms and resins, musk and amber.

And now, finally, how to make perfume at home, the process itself.

Recipes

The first thing I did was from a homemade assortment of quality essential oils, I selected those scents that I like and would personally sound good to MY taste in perfume. My essential oils are from Kingdom of Aromas. These are Crimean and very high quality broadcasts. Highly recommend!

We do not use base oils (almond, apricot kernels...)

I applied a drop of each of the essential oils to strips of cardboard and then placed them together, waving them with a slight movement, trying to catch whether I liked the combination of all these smells together. It is difficult for an inexperienced perfumer to guess what melody these scents will play after final mixing and after the perfume has matured.

So, I settled on 3 broadcasts:

  • top note - ginger (spicy smell)
  • middle note - lavender (floral scent) + ylang-ylang (floral scent)

And the 4th as a base note, I chose patchouli

Everything is intuitive, because this is magic, this is creativity!

And she began adding oil drop by drop into the bottle. If you do not have a high-quality dispenser in a bottle of oil, you need a pipette.

  • top note - 8 drops (31%)
  • average - 6+10 = 16 drops (61%)
  • basic - 2 drops (8%)

Now add alcohol and distilled water. The classic calculation is approximately this: for 10-15 drops of essential oil, take 10 ml of alcohol and 10 ml of distilled water.

In order not to forget the composition and to be able to experiment in the future, I made a label on the bottle indicating the number of drops of essential oils.

The resulting perfume turned out to my taste: not heavy, attractive, evening, not at all floral, but with a spicy love trail....))) This is a perfume with aphrodisiacs for women. Name??? Probably “Summer Night”.

So you have learned how to make perfume with your own hands at home. It's simple and incredibly exciting, this is women's magic. I would recommend perfumery lessons to all women to gain femininity and harmony.

Important advice - try, experiment, everything is possible... The main rule is that you should like the perfume!

After you have used your mixing equipment, wash and dry everything thoroughly, scrub with alcohol to remove all traces of aroma, wash again, rinse in clean water and dry for next use.

When making perfume at home, essential oils are added to alcohol or base oil - Jojoba.

How to make perfume yourself?

The ingredients that go into a store-bought perfume or eau de toilette account for approximately 10% of the retail price, with the rest being packaging, advertising, sales profits and taxes. Wouldn't it be better to invest in truly exotic essential oils and make your own perfume? Have you ever, while inhaling a certain aroma, thought “if I were a aroma, I would be exactly this”? Essential oils will only save you a dollar or two, but don't panic, because 1-2 drops of jasmine oil is enough to get a whole bottle of chic perfume. And you can be sure that this is a truly first-class thing, which cannot be said about many store-bought perfumes.

One of the benefits of making your own perfume is natural extracts. You won't have to worry about chemicals and preservatives getting on your skin causing dryness or, worse, allergic reactions. Of course, I'm not saying that you can't be allergic to essential oils; each person has an individual reaction, so you should use a sample first.

So, let's move on to the first recipe. If you choose an expensive oil, it is usually packaged in bottles of various sizes from small 1.7 ml samples, similar to perfume samples handed out in stores, to 3.785 liter bottles. You can use samplers if there is a risk of an allergic reaction.

The persistence and intensity of the odor of an aromatic liquid or perfume will depend on the concentration of essential oils in relation to water and alcohol. The recipe for the most long-lasting perfume is: 15-30 percent oil, 70-85 percent alcohol, and the remainder, at least 5%, water. Use only distilled or spring water. The alcohol should be high quality vodka with 57% alcohol content, brandy can also be used, but its characteristic odor may change the aroma of the essential oils being mixed. If you want to add color, use a natural, high-quality vegetable dye. You will also need sterile bottles for the resulting creations, and no matter how much you would like to pour the perfume into beautiful transparent crystal bottles, you should not do this. After all, they attract the worst enemy of spirits - the sun's rays. If you still can’t resist showing off your masterpiece in a beautiful bottle, at least store most of the perfume in a separate container and only a small part in the bottle.

One last thing: you will need a notebook to write down the recipes, indicating the exact number of drops of oil that is added to your concentrate. Remember that one drop of oil can completely change the aroma. For example, you know you added jasmine, ylang-ylang and vanilla, but how many drops of jasmine did you add - 1 or 2, and how many drops of vanilla - 3 or 4? So, if you accidentally create a masterpiece, you will undoubtedly want to look at your notebook to remember the exact recipe.

Step-by-step instruction:
Essential oil concentrate
71 ml vodka 57% or brandy
2 tablespoons distilled or spring water (add more water if necessary)

Take the oil concentrate and add vodka, stirring slowly and long until the oils are completely dissolved. Let the mixture sit for 48 hours, then add 2 tablespoons of distilled or spring water, stir again thoroughly and slowly. Let the mixture sit for another 48 hours. Sometimes perfumes are kept for 4 to 6 weeks, so they get a more lasting perfume, not eau de toilette. The choice is yours, but remember, if the flavor seems too strong, you can always add more water and dilute them again. After the perfume has infused, filter it through a coffee filter to ensure that no sediment gets into the final product. Voila! — the designer perfume is ready! Enjoy!

Here are some recipes to practice and get ready to create your own perfume:

Tender Mercy:
2 drops lavender oil
4 drops clove oil
3 drops juniper oil
2 kali jasmine oil
3 drops ylang-ylang oil

The Sultan's Joy:
2 drops patchouli oil
2 drops lavender oil
3 drops ylang-ylang oil
1 drop jasmine oil

Making perfume at home with your own hands

If you have already chosen a successful perfume for yourself, then try to use a small amount of it every day, without changing the scents unexpectedly and abruptly. If you have not yet decided which perfume is best for you, then try making it yourself, using natural ingredients and focusing on the color of your hair.

For light hair, mix 6 violet and rose petals, add 1 pinch each of mint and sage leaves and 10 verbena leaves. All herbs must be dried.

Pour 50 g of alcohol into the mixed components of the future perfume and strain the resulting tincture after a week. It is allowed to add vanilla to the finished perfume at the very tip of the knife. Apply this perfume after sunset (after taking a shower) on your wrists, where your pulse is felt, and under your knees, and in the morning you no longer need to perfume yourself.

If you have dark hair, then use 1 teaspoon of lilac flowers and 1 drop each of jasmine and clove essential oils. Mix all this with 50 g of alcohol and leave for a week to infuse. At the same time, in another jar, mix 50 g of alcohol and a pinch of basil and mint herbs. After a week, strain the tinctures and apply on the wrists of both hands, first a drop of the first aroma, and right on top of the first - a drop of tincture from the second jar, and apply the perfume before 12 noon.

For red hair, take 100 g of alcohol and mix it with 10 pinches of acacia flowers, adding 3 pinches of wormwood herb, lavender flowers and iris flowers. In the morning, apply a drop to pulsating areas on the body or clothing.

DIY perfume. How to make your own perfume from essential oils. Homemade perfumes.

Do you want to have a perfume that only you have? Do you think this is impossible? It's very possible!

It turns out that preparing a wonderful aroma from essential oils is not so difficult. Of course, you need to start with the simplest thing: with theoretical knowledge, which you can glean from this article. And after that you can start your career as a perfumer. Of course, to be completely successful you will need to gain some experience. But you can start with simple perfumes and perfumes.

To create a natural perfume you need essential oils and a carrier substance. In principle, there are only two carrier substances used to prepare natural perfumes: fatty jojoba oil and alcohol. What to prefer is a matter of taste and... smell.

If this is your first time mixing scents, start with small amounts of different essential oils. Essential oils are sold in specialty stores or special sections of large department stores and supermarkets. You can also buy them in online stores.

To begin with, three oils will be enough for each of the parts (notes) of the aroma. Rose and jasmine flower oils are very expensive, and until you decide which scent direction you like best, you can use the more affordable oils of ylang-ylang, geranium and myrtle. In addition to essential oils, you will need a base (carrier). For these purposes, as we have already said, alcohol and/or fatty jojoba oil are suitable. In addition, you will need small vessels for dosing and mixing oils. You can take any vessels - cones, bottles, bottles. Volume from 10 to 100 ml. They should be large enough to make it convenient for you to mix oils, but at the same time, not very large - the less air in the vessel, the better.

To determine the aroma you will need smelling papers. These are highly absorbent paper strips that are used to test aroma. They are simply necessary, because if you “sample” the aroma from a bottle, you will not be able to perceive all its subtleties. One way to “mix” different essential oils is to soak different smelling papers with different essential oils and hold them in different combinations to your nose. As a result, you will be able to determine whether the scents are suitable for each other. This is what professional perfumers do. However, you will not be able to understand in this way what the final character of your aroma will be, since, firstly, aromatic substances are ultimately diluted to a concentration of 4-25%, which can significantly change their “sound”, and, in -Secondly, every perfume must first "ripen" for two to three weeks to form its final scent.

So, let's start: take the base note that you like best. For example, patchouli oil. Patchouli is a very powerful and multifaceted aroma. Therefore, it is beneficial to combine it with some soft base note, for example, tonka bean oil or vanilla. Do as we taught you: place a drop of patchouli on one paper strip and a drop of vanilla oil on the other. Bring them, crossed, but not stacked with each other, to your nose. Evaluate whether you like their combination. If you like, add both oils to the prepared vessel.

Be sure to meticulously document your every step. Like, so many drops of this and that oil were taken. Also indicate the company from which you purchased this oil (this will allow you to recreate the scent you liked). Documenting what you do, of course, is not necessary, but if you want to avoid a situation where you are tearing your hair out because you forgot what you mixed the scent you liked from, then it is better to write everything down in advance.
If you like the base note, you can add a heart note to it. For example, rose and/or geranium go well with patchouli. Patchouli also combines well with ylang-ylang. However, some people don't like this combination. After all, aroma is a matter of taste. In general, there is nothing more subjective than our sense of smell. What some people like, others hate. At the same time, the same aroma at different times of the day can both attract and repel. It is also very interesting to divide the finished base note into three vessels and try each with different heart notes.

As a head note, you can add blood orange to the patchouli-rose mixture, and bergamot to the patchouli-ylang mixture.

When the mixture is ready, a carrier substance (alcohol/fatty oil) can be added to it. You can add very little, because you can reduce the concentration at any time. The aroma mixture can be prepared even without a carrier substance. In this case, it can be used to scent cosmetics, soaps or create massage oils, as well as in aroma lamps. Or you can drop a few drops on cotton wool and place it in your wardrobe! As you can see, there are a lot of options for using your own perfumes. The concentration of fragrant substances in the carrier substance can vary between 4% to create a light eau de toilette and 25% to create an eau de parfum, i.e. spirits directly.

As soon as you start mixing oils, you will immediately have a small “collection” of combinations that you like best. Don't be alarmed - this is normal. But now you can start creating. And if you mixed something that doesn’t want to harmonize with each other, it doesn’t matter: try combining them with other scents, such as lavender or vanilla.

After all the components of the perfume are mixed, your perfume will have a relatively long time to mature. Only after maturation do the perfume begin to emit an aroma that will remain with them forever. The individual components of your perfume will merge with each other in an extraordinary way, so that sometimes it will even be difficult to understand what is included in the composition. If anything, the smell will change and become complete. The molecules will be rearranged, the aroma will become more harmonious.

The time it takes for spirits to mature can vary greatly. As a general rule, it is assumed that perfumes require at least two weeks to mature in jojoba oil, and at least four weeks to mature in alcohol. You can't just sit back and wait for the scent to take shape. After just two or three days, you can begin to taste (preferably using sniffing paper strips) how the aroma changes over time. This, believe me, is no less interesting than directly mixing the components. In addition, at this moment you can still add components to the composition that you think are missing, or when one of the substrates is too dominant.

So, here is the BASIC SCHEME for preparing your own perfume from essential oils (using the example of ready-made recipes) as follows:

For the recipes below, you will need a carrier substance. To do this, you can, as we have already written, use alcohol or jojoba oil. You must mix a fifth of essential oils into this substance to obtain a 25% concentration of aromatic substances. If you use alcohol, add another 2% distilled water at the very end. Fill the resulting mixture into a bottle or spray bottle, place it overnight under the light of the moon (a little mysticism never hurts :-)) and leave it to mature for three weeks.

The recipes presented below are designed for a volume of carrier substance equal to 25 ml. If you want to create 50 ml at once, simply double the indicated amount of essential oils you use.

And don't worry that many will repeat this recipe. After all, each time it will be a “slightly” different perfume, since you won’t be able to measure the ingredients exactly “down to the molecule”. Therefore, there are no two identical batches of perfume in the world. In fact, everything is not as complicated as it seems. With my help, you will master this science in one go! Read carefully and remember everything that is written below. Or maybe it’s even worth adding this page to your “Favorites” or online bookmarks so as not to lose it. Surely this information will be useful to you.

First, let's look at how the composition itself is created. Professional perfumers, as you yourself understand, do not start mixing everything in a whirlwind - no, they are guided by certain rules and knowledge. For example, they know that any perfume, when used, goes through three successive stages.

Stage 1. Head of the Spirits
This stage lasts 5-30 minutes immediately after applying the perfume. During this time, the most volatile essential oils evaporate.
These include: oils of lavender, thyme, nutmeg, rosemary, various citrus fruits, bergamot, basil and others.
By the way, this stage is called the top note and is considered very important - it creates the first impression. Remember how you choose perfume yourself: after the first smell, right?

Stage 2. Heart of the Spirits
This stage lasts from 12 to 24 hours. At this time, the main aroma of the perfume “sounds”. You've probably been repeatedly surprised that at the end of a date perfume smells different than at the very beginning? This was precisely the difference between the second and first stages of the “life” of spirits. During this entire time, less volatile oils slowly evaporate.
These include: ylan-ylang, juniper, rose, sage, wild lily, jasmine, palmarosa and others.
Stage 3. Spirit Base
This is the aroma of those oils that have the least volatility; their smell “sounds” until it disappears completely.
These include: patchouli, sandalwood, cedar, vetiver, vanilla, tuberose, cassia, musk, aromas of fruits and oriental spices.

How to create your own scent at home?

Now that you know how a particular scent behaves in a composition and what a perfume composition is made of in general, we can get down to the fun part: creating your own scent!

It's done like this. Cut narrow strips 9-11 cm long from clean paper (make sure there is no foreign smell on it!). After this, sign (preferably with a pencil, the ink of many pens also has its own scent) each strip with the name of the oil and apply one drop to each of them, of course, making sure that the name on the piece of paper corresponds to the applied oil.

First, the spirit heart is created. That is, take those pieces of paper on which oils with heart notes are applied and “taste” each of them. Then you can start experimenting: take the two scents that you think suit each other best and bring them to your nose at the same time. The aromas will mix and you will feel the aroma of your first mini-composition... Have you determined which combination of essential oils you like best? Great. Now, in the same way, select a composition for the base of the perfume and the head of the perfume. Don't be afraid to experiment - the more experiments, the greater the chance of doing exactly what you need!

And to make it easier for you, I can also say that usually the ratio of aromas in perfumes corresponds to the proportion 1: 2: 3. That is, one part of the aromas of the head of the perfume is taken, two of the heart of the perfume and three of the base.

By the way, all these rules are, of course, good, but sometimes the most amazing combinations are obtained as a result of chance or a burst of inspiration that violates all laws. So try, create - what if you invent a second Chanel No. 5?

Have you created your own scent? Does it feel complete and already begging to be applied to the skin? Amazing! Let's move on to the last stage of creating perfume yourself - fixing the resulting aroma in the base.

Remember the main rule: to work with perfume you must use exclusively glass bottles (or any other “container”), and for more or less long-term storage - only dark glass bottles!

As a base for perfume, they usually use either a combination of alcohol and distilled water, or vodka, or base oil, or a combination of base oil and wax (in the latter case, the so-called solid perfume is obtained).

You can use oil-based perfumes immediately after they are created. Perhaps you should try this particular foundation option for the first time, because you will want to apply them on yourself right away! But alcohol-based perfumes need to be infused for about a month in a dark place, shaking once every 2-3 days.

The following proportions are usually used to make perfume: 3 parts essential oils and 7 parts base. First, the oils of the heart of the perfume are added, then the base note oils, and only at the very end - the top note oils.

And if you want to make a solid perfume, then you need to take 2 parts oil and 1 part wax and mix the whole thing in a water bath, slightly heating it. After you add the mixture of essential oils to the base, immediately pour the future solid perfume into the mold - it hardens quickly.

Today we will learn how to make perfume ourselves. A distinction should be made between oil-based perfumes and alcohol-based perfumes.

Oil-based perfumes: 15-20 drops of essential oils per approximately 10 ml of jojoba oil.

Alcohol-based perfumes: mix 10 ml of pure 90 percent alcohol with 5-10 ml of distilled water, add 10-15 drops of essential oils.

Now the perfume should “ripen” within one to two weeks. If you like expensive essential oils (jasmine, neroli, rose), fill a bottle of such oil with alcohol and water or jojoba oil. For thick, resinous oils, only alcohol should be used.

Oil perfumes, made according to your own recipe, can also be used to flavor cosmetics, worn in a locket, and also added to the bath.
Every perfume has a warm “base note,” a light “top note,” and a “heart note,” all connected together.

Essential oils with a “base note”: benzoin, vetiver, galbanum, clove, cedar, cypress, cinnamon, incense, juniper, musk, patchouli, rosewood, sandalwood, styrax, elemi.

Essential oils with a “top note”: orange, bergamot, verbena, lime, lemon, lemongrass, tangerine, peppermint.

Essential oils with a “heart note”: geranium, jasmine, ylang-ylang, iris, hyssop, lavender, lemon balm, mimosa, myrtle, clary sage, neroli, rose, chamomile.

In order for perfumes to retain their qualities for a long time, they should be stored in a cool place, protected from light.

Stages of making perfume at home

1. As a base, take 10 ml of jojoba oil and add 10-30 drops of essential oils of your choice (base, top and heart notes).

2. First, add the “base note” essential oils to the jojoba oil. Smell the mixture and apply a little onto your skin.

3. Add the scent you find most pleasing as a “heart note,” followed by a “top note” of your choice.

4. As you add each subsequent oil, shake the mixture thoroughly.

5. If at the end of the work any odor is released too strongly, it should be “balanced” with one of the previously used oils or a small amount of lavender oil.

You can also create as an option - Solid perfume

You can also make solid perfumes. They are easier to make, and they are also a very practical form of releasing fragrances. They do not contain alcohol and cannot be spilled.

To make your own solid perfume, you will need the following:

- 1 tablespoon of beeswax or Vaseline oil;
- 1 tablespoon of jojoba oil or almond oil;
— 8-10 drops of essential oils used in perfumery;
- a small clean container (about 15g) for packaging solid perfumes.
If you don't want to buy a special new container for your perfume, you can use a lip balm jar.

Containers for decorative or hygienic lipstick will also work.
So, the sequence of preparing solid perfumes:

1. Melt wax or Vaseline oil and jojoba oil or almond oil in one bowl. You can either microwave the ingredients in a heatproof container for a few seconds, or melt them using a double boiler.

2. Once the mixture becomes liquid, remove it from the heat. Stir in essential oils using a wooden stick, straw or spoon (not a wooden one, otherwise it will always smell).

3. Pour the liquid mixture into the container. Cover with a lid, but do not close tightly so that condensation does not form and bacteria subsequently multiply.

Or a bouquet of lilacs, I want to preserve this smell for a long time. Of course, you can buy essential oil. But it’s much nicer if your favorite fleur is sealed with your own hands. And so the question arises: “How to make perfume at home?”

Composition from the original source

A bouquet given by a loved one easily turns into the best perfume in the world. How? Of course, using perfume creation technology. To do this, you will need fresh petals of your favorite flowers, freshly picked citrus peels. It is best to start your experiments with mono compositions. Having chosen a scent, you should choose a base for it. The best solution would be olive oil.

In order to create, you need dark glassware. Selected components are dropped into it and filled with oil until they are completely covered. If petals are used, they are first crushed. After which the container is covered with natural fabric and placed in a cool, dark place for a day.

After the specified time, according to the recipe for how to make perfume at home, you should strain the resulting suspension and leave it to brew again for a day. At the end of the second day, the process of direct perfume production begins. To do this, vodka and the resulting aromatic oil are poured into dark glass bottles. The proportions depend on what they want to get: for perfume it is three to one, for - four to one.

Composition of oils

The above method is suitable for creating your own scent. A different situation arises if fashionable perfumes are reproduced, especially if we are talking about their vintage samples.

For example, "Shalimar" by Guerlain, 1925. To create them, you will need several types of essential oils, such as bergamot (top note), rose, jasmine and iris (as heart notes), as well as vanilla, Tonka bean and opoponax as base notes .

How to make perfume at home based on the famous composition? Of course, through experimentation. So, 25 ml of alcohol or vodka is poured into a dark glass bottle. Afterwards, the aromas of the indicated notes are sequentially added to them in the amount of 25 drops of each oil. Once the composition is composed, it should be put in a dark place for two days, after which the resulting aroma should be checked. If the notes are not heard, you should add the missing oils and put the bottle back in a dark place.

After the fragrance is composed and aged, 2 teaspoons of water are added to it, as well as 5 drops of glycerin to enhance the durability of the perfume.

Solid perfume

These perfumes are an ideal option for those who prefer mono-aromas, as well as exclusively natural ingredients in perfumery.

How to make perfume at home using a solid base? In fact, the process of making them is quite simple. They will need wax, an oil base (for example, vitamin E or almond) and, of course, any essential oil or composition.

A mixture of finely grated wax and an oil base is carefully melted in a glass container. You should use one tablespoon of each ingredient. While the wax is heating, the perfume composition is prepared. You can use one scent or create an attractive combination. The stated amount of wax will require 15 drops of perfume.

As soon as the mixture becomes homogeneous, add the prepared aromatic composition to it and mix thoroughly. Without allowing the perfume to harden, they are poured into metal or glass containers, in which the perfume will be stored in the future.

The presented methods of creating perfume are basic and can be changed as a result of work.

It would seem, why make perfume yourself, since the production of high-quality perfumed products is established in France and Russia, Italy, the UAE, Holland and other countries? However, many lovers of exclusive products try to create original, unexpected scents on their own. One of the reasons is the desire to get a product made from natural ingredients, completely without preservatives or chemical additives.

What can perfume be made from?

Before starting perfume experiments with scents, you need to acquire various necessary ingredients, equipment and patience. How to make perfume with your own hands? You can use alcohol, wax, rose or other flower petals, and essential aromatic oils.

To obtain the final bouquet of several scents, take strips of ordinary thin paper and apply a drop of essential oil to each with a pipette. How to make perfume at home? Samples (strips) must be signed in advance. Smelling 2 or 3 strips at a time, changing their combinations, creates a composition of aromas. Then the resulting combination is fixed in the selected base:

  • liquid, light on alcohol;
  • hard wax;
  • resistant oil.

To obtain a rich aroma, the content of essential oils must be more than 30%. To obtain soft perfumes, volatile oils are added only in amounts of about 10%. How to make your own perfume? You need to follow simple advice from experienced perfumers and follow simple rules.

Each aromatic bouquet affects the olfactory organs sequentially in three stages:

  • high, head note;
  • the “heart” of future spirits;
  • the bottom note or base, which is the basis of the future aroma.

In the very first few minutes after application, light essential oils evaporate. Among them are citrus fruits, nutmeg oil, rosemary, lavender, basil, lemon, bergamot. This stage is called the “head” stage.

The second period of exposure (heart) can last from several hours to a full day. The heart, the main aroma of the perfume can be juniper and lily, oregano, rose and jasmine, iris, ylang-ylang, geranium and other persistent incense.

The base for perfumes is the smells of the most stable essential oils, among which are vanilla and patchouli, spicy and fruity aromas, the smells of cedar and musk, sandalwood and cinnamon. When learning how to make perfume with your own hands, it is important to remember the traditional proportions of the components. Fragrances are traditionally combined in a ratio of 1:2:3 (head: heart: base).

What to prepare

How to make homemade perfume? First of all, you need to prepare the necessary ingredients and equipment in advance. What you may need:

  • strips of thin paper for obtaining samples;
  • several essential oils with light and more intense aromas;
  • a little natural coffee (for inhalation) to improve sensitivity to odors;
  • several ordinary pharmacy pipettes (separately for each oil);
  • stick - stirrer made of glass or ceramics;
  • a notepad or notebook for recording the number (drops) of components;
  • alcohol and a little distilled water for light perfume;
  • wax for solid versions of the fragrant mixture;
  • bottles and mini-jars with tight lids;
  • ceramic or glass container for mixing ingredients.

It is not recommended to use metal or plastic utensils to avoid the reaction of essential oils with these materials.

Perfume base

Grapeseed oils, cocoa, almond and honey, clove and galbanum, benzoin and styrax can become the basic basis for your own perfume. When creating unique scents of their own, many people want to know exactly how to make perfume. At home, it is very important to keep a record of every drop of oil or base substance added to a perfume bouquet.

The carrier substance for perfume can be either oil, water or alcohol. Oil-based fragrances last longer and have a more muted aroma; alcohol-based fragrances reveal themselves more easily and more fully on the surface of the skin, but have less durability and stronger odors. Almond oil is an excellent base. It perfectly dissolves any essential oils without changing their specific odors. If you dissolve 2-3 drops of the selected aroma in one teaspoon of almond oil, you will get a wonderful long-lasting oil perfume that has a beneficial effect on the skin.

Do I need to take into account the intensity of odors?

It is best, when experimenting with the process of “how to make perfume at home,” to choose ingredients that cause only pleasant sensations. Otherwise, these odors can negatively affect your overall well-being.

Base oils should have a weaker aroma than the “heart” perfume, so as not to overshadow the idea of the main composition.

To obtain incense according to the recipe “How to make perfume from oil,” two or three components are used in one composition. The resulting composition must be infused in a completely light-proof and cool place.

Basic instructions for making exclusive perfumes

Some people love the smell of roses, others prefer citrus or pine scents. Fresh or sharp, sweet or bitter, perfumes are chosen in accordance with the image and appearance, age and inner feelings of the woman. Creating perfume is a leisurely, careful creative process that requires patience, imagination and accuracy.

Adding drop by drop, the components are slowly mixed together for several minutes until the oil is completely dissolved in alcohol. Be sure to record all composition ratios. Then apply a small amount onto a paper strip and slowly, deeply inhale the aroma. If everything in the bouquet suits you, prepare a larger amount of the mixture. If any of the odors interrupts the others, you need to carefully add the desired component and test the entire composition again. To simplify the process, each sample is signed.

In the most persistent perfumes, the oil content reaches 20-25%, alcohol - about 75% and about 5% water. It is not recommended to use cognac or brandy, since the inherent odors of these drinks can change the state of the main aromatic composition of the oils. Alcohol should only be used of the highest quality, preferably containing 57% alcohol. The higher the concentration of oils relative to alcohol and water, the more intense and long-lasting perfumes can be obtained. For color, plant natural dyes are sometimes added.

Floral scents

How to make perfume from flowers? To obtain delicate aromas, essential oils with the scents of jasmine and rosewood, iris and geranium, ylang-ylang and lily, lavender, oregano and others are used. For a wonderful perfume called “Starfall” you need to combine 5 drops of chamomile, valerian and lavender oils. Dissolve 1 tablespoon of vodka in 2 glasses of purified water. Add oil aromas there and pour it all into a dark glass bottle. Close the well-mixed mixture tightly. After infusing in a dark place for 12 hours, the perfume can be used.

Pink water

How to make perfume from roses? The simplest recipe for this composition is as follows:

  1. Take petals from several open pink buds.
  2. Pour any mineral water into a cup.
  3. Place the petals in water and leave for several hours.
  4. Strain through cheesecloth or a sieve. Pour into a dark glass bottle.

The resulting rose water can be successfully used instead of perfume as a light aromatic remedy. The only disadvantage of such perfumes is their short shelf life.

How to make perfume from flowers, from roses? If you pour the collected and crushed petals in a mortar with olive oil and leave in a warm place, you will get real rose oil. To increase its concentration, you can replace the infused old petals with new ones several times. The remaining flowers, taken out of the container and giving off their wonderful aroma, are squeezed out. And fresh, mashed flowers are filled with the same oil. The petals must be bright red or dark pink. They must be dry, without dew and water.

Firm and flavorful

It is very convenient to use perfumes with a solid base. They can be carried in a locket or small jar with a screw cap. A solid odorous substance can be used to create a special atmosphere in a room by simply rubbing them with your fingers. How to make solid perfume, and what is needed for this?

  1. First, as for other perfumes, a mixture of essential oils is prepared.
  2. The wax is melted in a separate bowl in a water bath.
  3. Add coconut or almond oil to the melted wax, gently stirring until smooth.
  4. The prepared aromatic composition of essential oils is added to the mixture removed from the heat.
  5. The created perfume is very quickly poured into small containers to harden.

When preparing solid perfumes, you need to act very quickly, but carefully, since the mixture has a high temperature.

For 2 parts wax, take 1 part base oil and about 45 drops of essential mixture. Usually the measurement is a tablespoon.

How to apply exclusive perfumes

Perfumes made independently, like regular ones, are used by applying to various parts of the body. The scents last the longest if you “touch” the fragrant mixture on your wrists or the hollow behind the ears. Since making perfume at home is only possible using aromatic oils, you should not apply them to clothes to avoid stains.

You can make solid versions of perfume to use only at home. A mixture with the scent of lavender, placed in the bedroom, will make the inhabitants of the home sleep peacefully.

The aromas of citrus fruits, fixed in solid perfumes, perfectly invigorate and support the overall energy state, improve performance.

Men are perfectly influenced by the faint smells of pine, bergamot and orange emanating from certain parts of the body of representatives of the opposite sex.
