Oily skin cannot be changed. However, it is quite possible to correct her bad behavior, which is expressed in the ostentatious display of a greasy sheen and a tendency to clog pores. All you need is proper care, which includes proper cleansing. But first, let’s determine the signs of oily facial skin.

    The sebaceous glands intensively produce secretions - hence the excessive shine, which is difficult to control. Makeup does not last well, foundations “float” a couple of hours after application.

    Pimples and comedones are common for oily skin. Excess sebum does not have time to come to the surface and accumulates in the pores, where propionibacteria acne, the causative agents of an extremely unpleasant inflammatory process, begin to multiply.

Oily skin can be aggravated by various factors, both external and internal. Among them:

    hormonal changes;

    unhealthy diet with a predominance of flour, fatty, sweet foods;

    illiterate care;

Care for oily skin

Basic care for oily skin consists of several stages.

    Washing. Don’t forget about it and, even if you are very tired, be sure to cleanse your skin before going to bed: a night “mask” of foundation will only aggravate the problems of oily skin.

    Toning. The toner will refresh the skin, tighten pores, restore pH balance and make the epidermis more receptive to the active components of the moisturizer.

    Hydration. If the cream clogs your pores, give preference to the gel texture of the product. Replace thick creamy moisturizing masks with fabric ones.

    Exfoliation. The frequency of this procedure is 1–2 times a week. Exfoliation with a scrub (not suitable for skin with open inflammatory elements) or a product with acids stimulates cell renewal and facilitates the release of sebum to the surface of the skin.

A clean face is the basis of an attractive appearance. How a person looks, his face depends on how others will accept him. The freshness and neatness of appearance depends on the normal condition of the skin, which requires proper care to achieve. It includes the following procedures:

  • Cleansing;
  • Toning;
  • Massage;
  • Intended use of cosmetics.

The most important stage is cleansing. During the procedure, dead skin cells, accumulated fat and impurities are removed. The procedure for removing dirt promotes cell renewal and prevents inflammatory processes, which allows the face to remain fresh and healthy for a long time.

The selection of cleansers begins with determining the type of facial skin. Cosmetologists call 3 types:

  • Dry;
  • Fat;
  • Combined.

Each skin type requires individual care, this also applies to cleansing. Choosing products for washing your face is not difficult, since most cosmetic products are designed taking into account your individual type. You can find a gel for washing every type of skin in any specialty store or on pharmacy shelves.

Criterias of choice

The huge selection of facial cleansing products presented by manufacturers will leave most buyers confused. And the question arises: how to choose? In order to make a smart purchase, you should pay attention to the following factors:

  • Composition of the product. Pay attention to the presence of chemicals. They are the primary cause of an allergic reaction. Most often, manufacturers save money by adding them to the composition.
  • Best before date;
  • Suitable for skin type.

    Benefits and contraindications for using cleansing gel for washing, rules for its use. Review of products for different skin types.

    Why do you need a cleansing gel for washing?

    During the day, the skin becomes dirty for many reasons: due to the negative impact of environmental factors such as smog and dust, due to sweat and fat secretions from the body and makeup residues. Therefore, it is necessary to clean it by washing your face in the morning and evening, regardless of whether you use cosmetics or not. A cleansing gel is ideal for this purpose, but only a quarter of all women buy it instead of cheap but irritating soap.

    But the gel is not so aggressive, and it can be selected according to your skin type. In addition to surfactants, the cleanser contains various useful additives and components that, while improving the appearance, also heal the skin by penetrating deeply through cleansed pores.

    Depending on what type of surfactant (surfactant) is included in the gel, they come in the following types:

    • Amphoteric. Their packaging lists components such as Sarcosine, Cocoyl, Betaine. These are the most expensive and high-quality gels that act most effectively and gently.
    • Anionic. The substances included in their composition do not penetrate deep enough into the skin, but are repelled from it, and therefore cleanse worse. And lauryl sulfate, which is part of them, dries out the skin.
    • Cationic. They, unlike the anionic ones described above, penetrate too deeply, thereby causing dryness and allergies in people with sensitive skin. Contains Polyquaternium, Quaternium.
    • Nonionic. Contains Decyl-Glucoside. Like ordinary water, they simply wash away dust from the surface of the skin, and therefore are ineffective and practically useless, although inexpensive.
    The packaging of any product indicates its composition. Divide the list in half. The first half contains substances that make up approximately 90% of the volume of the cosmetic product. It is preferable if the gel contains mildly active ingredients: Coco or Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Carpylyl (Capryl) or Coco Glucoside, Glycolic, Lactic or Salicylic Acid, as well as natural oils.

    If the product contains mineral oil, then after prolonged use of such cosmetics you will end up with clogged pores and an increase in the number of comedones. You should be wary if the gel contains Sodium Myreth Sulfate (SMS), Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), these are aggressive surfactants. True, there is an opinion that SLES is safer than SLS.

    Beneficial properties of face wash gel

    Using a properly selected cleansing gel can have the following positive effects:
    1. Cleaning and disinfection. In addition to the purely mechanical removal of particles contaminating the skin (dust, dirt, sebaceous secretions, makeup), the cleansing gel often has an antibacterial effect and stops the spread of infection.
    2. Hydration and nutrition. Unlike soap, the gel is gentler and does not dry out the skin, and thanks to a variety of useful additives, it moisturizes and nourishes it.
    When choosing a suitable cleansing gel for washing, remember that for those with oily skin, products containing oils are contraindicated (they promote the growth of bacteria). Those who have problematic dermis should, in addition to thorough cleansing, also prevent the occurrence and spread of foci of infection. To do this, the cleanser must contain salicylic acid, zinc and triclosan. For normal skin, gels containing plant extracts are recommended, and for mature skin - with antioxidants and fruit acids, with a moisturizing and nourishing thick cream-gel being preferable.

    Contraindications to the use of cleansing gel

    If the gel is chosen incorrectly, then instead of a positive cleansing effect, its use can cause quite serious consequences, such as allergies, irritation and skin rashes.

    But even the right product may not be suitable for people with hypersensitive skin, as well as those who have an individual intolerance or allergy to any of the components included in its composition. Before using a new face wash, test it on your wrist and make sure there is no redness after use.

    During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the skin may react differently, including negatively, to usual products.

    The choice of gel must be taken seriously, because using the wrong one breaks the lipid barrier and dries out the epithelium. The gel can be selected for a specific skin type: dehydrated (it needs additional hydration, but it itself can be a combination type or oily), dry (which lacks its own lipids), combination, problematic and oily.

    Features of choosing the best washing gel

    When choosing a gel for washing, consider several factors: your age, skin type, the chemical composition of the product and whether it has additional positive effects in addition to cleansing (nutrition, hydration, etc.), which will have a beneficial effect on the condition of the dermis in a certain season. It is also worth paying attention to the manufacturer: well-known companies, valuing their reputation, monitor the quality and safety of their products.

    How to use cleansing gel

    If you have decorative cosmetics on your face, you need to remove it with a special product (makeup remover milk, etc.) and only then wash with a cleansing gel.

    Please note the following:

    • Water. It should be only slightly warm. Cold or hot will unnecessarily narrow/dilate blood vessels, which will not have the best effect on those who have fragile blood vessels or who have inflammation or rosacea on their skin. It is also necessary to monitor the quality of water. A high chlorine content negatively affects the skin, but with a detergent it will penetrate quite deeply into it. Water must be filtered or bottled.
    • Mode of application. In most cases, the algorithm for using a cleansing gel is as follows: moisten the skin with water, apply the product to your hands, rub it into your face with your fingertips in a circular motion, doing a kind of massage from the forehead to the chin three times, then rinse thoroughly with water. Do not press or rub roughly; all movements should be gentle and soft.
      Be sure to read the instructions on the package; perhaps this particular product has some subtleties in its method of use. For example, gels for problem skin may be rubbed into the skin more forcefully. It would be a good idea to consult with your cosmetologist, who knows the characteristics of your skin well.
    • Time. You cannot keep the cleanser on your skin for a long time; negative consequences are possible. Use time is no more than 20 seconds, then the gel should be washed off. If the skin is still not clean enough, simply repeat the procedure.
    • After washing. Pat your face dry with a soft towel. Then use a cream or mask.
    • How often. Some experts recommend washing your face with gel twice a day - morning and evening. Others believe that in the morning it is enough to simply rinse and use a tonic (after 40 years - milk), and leave the cleansing gel for the evening wash, when the skin is really dirty. This opinion is based on the fact that frequent washing with products containing surfactants can cause dehydration of the epithelium and damage its protective layer. You can try both options and, taking into account the result and your feelings (comfort/discomfort), choose the best one for you.
    How to choose a gel for washing - watch the video:

    Cleansing gel for washing is a product that should definitely be among your cosmetics. After all, cleansing the skin is a fundamental factor on which its health, and, consequently, beauty depends. The main thing is not to make a mistake when choosing, take into account all factors: skin type, age, chemical composition and brand.

    What to wash your face with, how to wash your face and why wash your face at all if you have problem skin.

    If a person is tormented by acne, he, according to my observations, tends to go to two extremes: 1) focuses on cleansing, scrubs his face until it squeaks, washes his face 7 times a day, completely ignoring other means - tonics, creams, medications; 2) on the contrary, he begins to enthusiastically use tonics, creams, serums, masks, medications, but does not think about cleansing his face and washes his face as usual - with soap, water...

    Followers of both extremes do not achieve the desired result of clear, healthy skin.

    Therefore, today I would like to talk about some of the mandatory subtleties of washing for problem skin, dispel a couple of myths and discuss them with you, and also talk about several correct, from my point of view, cleansers.

    1. The myth that problem skin needs to be washed more often than other skin types .

    Many people suffering from acne have heard the phrase " Maybe you should wash your face more often?". This is both extremely offensive and fundamentally wrong. It’s as if the person is some kind of incompetent, and all his troubles are due to lack of hygiene. In fact, problematic skin needs washing no more often than any other - according to need . Definitely in the evening - to wash off makeup and/or dust, dirt, soot that settles on the skin during the day. Definitely in the morning - to refresh your face and again wash off dust, etc. things invisible to the eye that collect from contact with a pillow, hair, a cat lying on the pillow, etc. During the day - if you returned from the street where the dusty wind was blowing, or were driving in a car with the windows open, or tore off the wallpaper, or just got really dirty in something. More often it is not necessary.

    After all, what is washing? This is washing off existing contaminants using water and soap. If there is no dirt, but simply, for example, excess sebum, it is better to blot it with a mattifying napkin than to wash with water and gel. Washing with gel is always a little stressful for the face; it dries out the skin and requires the application of a soothing tonic and moisturizer. If you are not ready for this, blot your face with a napkin and leave it alone.

    2. The myth that problem skin needs to be cleansed with harsher products than other skin types .

    The most harmful myth. Thinking that they have some kind of particularly filthy, dirty skin, people with acne buy super-hard washes, scrubs, loofah sponges and scrub, scrub, scrub their poor face. As a result of microtraumas (and after twenty, the skin no longer regenerates so well, by the way), microbes from inflammatory elements are spread throughout the face, the skin is irritated, overdried and - oh woe! - She has even more pimples.

    No guys. Problem skin, like skin with inflammation, is always sensitive. You need to treat it with extreme care. No large scrubs, no loofah, no drying washes with alcohol, ALS or ALES. Only a good, but gentle wash. Only warm water, not hot or cold, so as not to stress the skin and not cause stagnation.

    3. Should you be afraid of SLS?

    Complex issue. On the one hand, 90% of cleansers containing SLS, SLES, ALS, ALES did not satisfy me. On the other hand, there were exceptions and, in the end, some very respected cosmetic companies that produce products for cosmetologists allow the presence of SLS in some of their washing products - for example, CHRISTINA, KOSMOTEROS.

    And yet, here the exceptions, in my opinion, only reinforce the rule. The presence of SLS in the composition for me is a marker of low quality and, if the product is expensive, of disrespect for the consumer. SLS negates all the beneficial properties of other ingredients - acids, extracts, etc. If a cleanser contains SLS, I won't buy it. I don't recommend it to you either. There are more gentle cleaning components, a list of which can be found online.

    4. Should I use sponges, mittens, etc.?

    The answer is quite simple. If you wash, dry, store such products in a clean place (preferably hanging) and use them for no longer than a month - yes. If after washing your face you do not wash the sponge, do not wring it out, throw it on the sink, where it lies wet in a damp room and is filled with germs, fungi, etc. - NO!

    Which sponge to use is a matter of taste. I like soft cellulose sponges and konnyaku sponges with a convenient anatomical shape. To better rub your nose and remove blackheads, a flaxseed or nettle sponge is good. But leave the hard loofah for your heels - they shouldn’t injure your skin.

    5. What should be in a cleanser for it to be beneficial for problem skin?

    Acids - ANA and BHA. Plant extracts - for example, chamomile, nettle, calendula, witch hazel. Tea tree oil. Triclosan. Azulene. Yes, there could be a lot of things there.

    It is important to remember that the washing product is in contact with the skin for only a short time, and you won’t get far with one wash - almost everything that is in it floats down the sink drain along with the water.

    6. Why is washing pH important?

    This is why you should pay attention to the pH of your cleanser.

    If you remember a little chemistry, then there are three types of media - acidic, neutral and alkaline. Inside, a person has a predominantly alkaline environment, and disruption of its balance leads to various diseases. But the healthy state of our skin is acidic. The skin has a so-called “acid mantle”, which protects both the skin itself and the entire body from bacteria living from the outside.

    Acidic pH is a pH less than 4, alkaline is a pH from 6.5. The ideal pH is 5.5.

    Most cleansers, especially soaps and soap products with SLS, have an alkaline pH of 10-10.5. It strips away the protective acid mantle from the skin, exposing it to bacterial attack. It takes up to 16 hours for the skin to recover, and by this time, you know, it’s time to wash your face again. Regular alkalization of the skin leads to various skin diseases - acne, dermatitis, even eczema. Therefore, in terms of pH, there are two rules for washing: in the morning - washing with a neutral pH, which cleanses the skin without harming its pH level, at night - acidic washing. For example, I now use Christina Fresh azulene wash with a neutral pH in the mornings, and Christina Comodex acid wash with pH 2.5 in the evening.

    Another caveat is that acidic washing does not remove makeup, foundation, etc. very well. Therefore, after work/study, you first need to wash your face with a product with a neutral pH, and only then with an acidic one.

    I haven’t washed my face with soap, especially hard soap, for a very long time. Solid soaps, among other things, contain hardeners that thicken sebum and prevent it from leaking out of the pores. Pores become clogged and inflamed.

    7. Additional makeup removers nnnnada?

    NNNNADA! Modern foundations are no longer washed off not only with water, but even with soap products. Therefore, if you do makeup with BB cream, primer, fixative and a bunch of other layers of everything on your face, be sure to use special makeup removers - milk, hydrophilic oil, micellar water, etc. And after them, washing is mandatory.

    It seems that Krygina has an interesting opinion, that there is no need to wash your face with water; I categorically do not accept it. I immediately remember the phrase of the provincial heroine Irina Muravyova from the film “Carnival”: “ No, I don’t wash my face with water. This causes wrinkles to appear. Current lotion". Any makeup remover itself needs to be washed off. Period. If you want to conduct an experiment on yourself and just wipe your face with milk - please. Tell us later. But I gave up.

    8. So which washes are good?

    I can give a list of washes that were ideal for me as the owner of oily, problematic, thick skin:

    • Azulene soap CHRISTINA for normal to dry skin Fresh Azulene Cleansing- neutral wash for morning and evening, containing the antibacterial component azulene. Suitable, in my opinion, for all skin types. Cost 1300 rubles for 300ml;
    • Shower gel Kleona - gentle, with a large number of extracts, also suitable for any skin type. Cost about 270 rubles per 100ml;
    • Shower gel Joyskin for sensitive, oily and problematic skin- a pleasant new product in the line of Russian pharmacy cosmetics;
    • Shower gel CHRISTINA COMODEX Cleansing gel- a good evening wash with acids. Cost 1850 rubles for 250ml;
    • Phyto-gel for washing Planeta Organica for oily and combination skin- a budget, but very worthy product without SLS. 170 rubles for 200ml;
    • Cleansing foam Mentholatum ACNES Clear & Whitening Face Wash- so far the only decent Asian cleansing foam among gels that thoroughly cleanses pores. Cost 585 rubles for 130g;
    • Shower gel Propeller IMMUNO with anti-acne complex- a very budget-friendly and correct soft gel in all respects. Price - about 120 rubles for 150 ml;
    • Shower gel Toit Bel teen exfoliating- soft Swiss gel with salicylic acid and triclosan;
    • Shower gel Sanoflore Cleanser for problem skin- soft natural gel with plant extracts with an amazingly delicious smell;
    • 3-in-1 Biocon wash gel, mask, scrub- a good thing for cleansing the face with a creamy-mask texture;
    • Shower gel KOSMOTEROS Gel Nettoyant aux AHA- an excellent gel with acids, one of the few exceptions with SLS that I had. Cost - 925 rubles for 200 ml.

    As you can see, the list includes pharmacy, salon, and mass market products. But there is no famous VICHY Nornaderm and La Roche-Posay Effaclar - I can’t stand these pseudo-pharmacy products that are not worth the money, there is no Clinique soap for oily skin, which is more reminiscent of Domestos in composition.

    Try to avoid gels with an unpleasant “snotty” texture, which only smear on the face, but do not form foam well - in my experience, they cleanse with a C grade (for example, gul with shungite from Fratti, gel with neem from Himalaya Hebals). The same applies to washes (usually with a creamy texture) that leave a filmy, residue-like feeling on the face (for example, “Fresh” from “Beauty Cream”). Foams, for my taste, are too soft for oily skin and do not wash well. Korean foams for the most part did not impress me either.

    Wash your face correctly! Let washing your face be your first solid step towards beautiful and healthy skin!

    If you have questions or suggestions, as always, I am ready for dialogue.
